Per-Language Voices and Greetings
When your AI receptionist supports multiple languages, each language can have its own voice and greeting configuration. This ensures the AI sounds natural and appropriate for speakers of each language, not just translated from English.
Why per-language configuration matters
Using the same voice for both English and Mandarin, for example, may produce AI speech that sounds unnatural or has a strong accent in the non-primary language. A voice trained for English may not produce high-quality Mandarin speech.
Per-language voices solve this: you select a different voice for each language, chosen for quality and naturalness in that language specifically.
Setting up per-language voices
- Go to AI Receptionists โ [Your AI] โ Voice & Languages.
- You'll see your configured primary language and any additional languages.
- For each language, click to expand the settings for that language.
- Select a voice for that language from the available options.
- Optionally, listen to a preview of the voice.
- Save and publish changes.
Voice options vary by language. The available voices for each language are shown in the language's configuration panel.
Per-language greetings
In addition to voices, each language can have its own greeting message. This is the opening line the AI says when it detects a caller speaking that language.
Setting a greeting per language means:
- English callers hear a natural English opening.
- French callers hear a proper French greeting.
- Each language feels native, not translated.
To set a per-language greeting, configure it in the language section within Voice & Languages settings.
๐ก Tip: Don't just translate your English greeting word-for-word into another language. Adapt it to sound natural in the target language. If you're not fluent, ask a native speaker to review it before going live.
โ ๏ธ Important: After updating voices or per-language greetings, publish the AI to push the changes live. Until published, the old configuration is still in use.
What happens without a per-language voice?
If you've added an additional language but haven't selected a specific voice for it, the AI may fall back to a default voice for that language. The quality and naturalness may not be as high. Always configure a voice for each language you activate.
