Adding Additional Languages

Configure your AI agent to support multiple languages for international callers.

Overview

Additional language support allows your AI agent to:

  • Respond in multiple languages
  • Use language-specific voices for each language
  • Automatically detect and switch to the caller's language (when enabled)

Accessing Language Configuration

  1. Navigate to Agent Settings > Voice & Languages
  2. Click Manage Languages to open the language configuration sheet

Enabling Additional Languages

In the language configuration sheet:

  1. Find the language you want to add
  2. Toggle the switch to enable that language
  3. Select a voice for that language from the voice dropdown
  4. Repeat for any additional languages you want to support

Voice Assignment

Each enabled language needs its own voice. When selecting a voice:

  • Choose a voice that matches the language natively
  • Consider the gender and style consistency with your primary voice
  • Preview voices using the play button before selecting

💡 Important: Using a voice optimized for the specific language ensures natural-sounding speech. Avoid using, for example, an English voice for Japanese content.

Language Detection

When additional languages are enabled, you can turn on Language Detection:

  1. In the language sheet, find the Language Detection toggle
  2. Enable it to allow automatic language switching
  3. Your AI will detect the caller's language and respond accordingly See Enabling Language Detection for more details.

Managing Enabled Languages

Disabling a Language

To remove a language from your agent:

  1. Open Manage Languages
  2. Toggle the language switch to off
  3. Save your changes The voice assignment for that language is preserved, so you can easily re-enable it later.

Changing Voice Assignment

To change the voice for an enabled language:

  1. Open Manage Languages
  2. Find the language
  3. Click the voice dropdown
  4. Select a new voice
  5. Save your changes

Best Practices

  1. Match voice to language - Always use voices designed for each specific language
  2. Limit additional languages - Only enable languages your business can actually support
  3. Test each language - Make test calls to verify the experience in each language
  4. Consider your audience - Add languages based on your actual customer demographics
