Some words need special pronunciation guidance for your AI agent. This article explains how to set up pronunciation rules.
What Are Pronunciation Rules?
Pronunciation rules tell the AI agent how to say specific words. This is useful for:
- Business or brand names
- Technical terms
- Unusual spellings
- Local place names
- Staff names
Accessing Pronunciation Settings
- Go to AI Config > Voice
- Scroll to the Pronunciation Rules section
- Add, edit, or remove rules as needed
How Rules Work
Each rule has two parts:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Word | The text to match |
| Pronunciation | How to say it (phonetic spelling) |
When the agent encounters the word, it uses your specified pronunciation instead of guessing.
Adding a Rule
- Click Add Pronunciation Rule
- Enter the word to match
- Enter the phonetic pronunciation
- Click Save
Phonetic Spelling Format
Write pronunciations as they sound:
Stress Marks
| Word | Phonetic Spelling |
|---|---|
| Nguyen | "Win" |
| Siobhan | "Shi-VAWN" |
| Açaí | "ah-sah-EE" |
| GIF | "JIF" |
Use CAPITALS for stressed syllables:
- "tuh-MAY-toh" (tomato with emphasis on MAY)
- "MEL-burn" (Melbourne with emphasis on MEL)
Syllable Breaks
Use hyphens to separate syllables:
- "a-noth-er"
- "com-pa-ny"
