How Language Settings Work

Primary Language

Every Speako agent has a primary language β€” this is the main language your AI agent uses to greet callers and conduct conversations. English is set as the default during onboarding, but you can change it at any time.

When you change the primary language:

  • Your agent's greeting is automatically translated to the new language.
  • A matching voice is assigned for the selected language.
  • All conversations will default to this language.

Multi-Language Support

You can enable additional languages alongside your primary language. When enabled, your agent can switch to a secondary language during a call if it detects the caller is speaking a different language.

For each additional language you enable, a dedicated voice is assigned so the agent sounds natural in that language.

Automatic Language Detection

When you enable Language Detection, your AI agent will automatically detect the language the caller is speaking and switch to the appropriate language and voice in real time. This is ideal for businesses that serve a multilingual customer base.

Configuring Languages

  1. Go to Agent > Settings > Voice in your Speako dashboard.
  2. Your primary language and voice are shown at the top.
  3. To change the primary language, select a new language from the dropdown and choose a voice.
  4. To add secondary languages, scroll to Additional Languages and enable the languages you want.
  5. Toggle Language Detection on if you want your agent to automatically detect and switch languages.
  6. Click Save to apply your changes. A publish is required for changes to take effect on live calls.

Voice Settings

In addition to language and voice selection, you can fine-tune how your agent sounds:

Setting Description Default
Speech Speed How fast the agent speaks (0.5x – 2.0x) 1.0x
Turn Timeout Seconds the agent waits for the caller to respond before speaking 5 seconds
Silence End Call Automatically ends the call after a period of silence 30 seconds
Max Call Duration Maximum length of a single call 5 minutes

Pronunciation Dictionary

For any language, you can add custom pronunciation rules to ensure your agent correctly pronounces business-specific terms, names, or abbreviations. These rules apply across all calls.

FAQ

Can I use different voices for different languages?

Yes. Each language (primary and secondary) has its own voice assignment. You pick a female or male voice for each.

Does language detection work for all 12 languages?

Language detection works across all supported languages that you have enabled. If a caller speaks a language that isn't enabled, the agent will continue in the primary language.

Will my greeting be translated automatically?

Yes. When you change the primary language, Speako automatically translates your configured greetings. You can also manually edit translated greetings.

How many languages can I enable at once?

You can enable all 12 languages simultaneously. Each will have its own assigned voice.
