Password Best Practices

A strong password on your Speako account protects your business data, customer bookings, and AI configuration from unauthorised access. Here are practical guidelines for keeping your account secure.

What makes a strong password

Length over complexity: A password that's 12+ characters long is stronger than a short password with special characters. A phrase like BlueSky-Coffee-Mountains7 is both memorable and hard to guess.

Unique to each service: Don't reuse passwords. If another service you use has a data breach, attackers try those same passwords on other accounts (including Speako).

Not based on obvious personal information: Avoid your name, business name, birth year, or commonly-used sequences like 12345678 or password.

Speako's minimum requirement

Speako requires passwords to be at least 8 characters long. However, meeting the minimum is not the same as having a strong password. Aim for at least 12 characters.

Use a password manager

A password manager (such as 1Password, Bitwarden, or your browser's built-in manager) can:

  • Generate a strong, unique password for your Speako account.
  • Store it securely — you don't need to remember it.
  • Auto-fill it when you log in.

This is the most practical way to maintain good password hygiene without the mental overhead.

What to do if you suspect your password has been compromised

  1. Change your password immediately from the profile page (Account Settings → Password).
  2. Check for any unusual bookings or changes to your AI configuration.
  3. Review team members — make sure no unexpected users have been added.
  4. Contact Speako support if you see anything suspicious.

Consider using Google sign-in as well

Linking your Google account (especially a Google Workspace account with two-factor authentication) gives you a secure second sign-in method. If your password is compromised, you can still access your account via Google while you sort things out.

See Connected Accounts (Google Sign-In).

⚠️ Important: Your Speako account contains customer data including names, phone numbers, and booking history. A compromised account is not just an inconvenience — it's a data breach. Treat your Speako password accordingly.
