The industry category and subtype steps help Speako create a workspace that starts closer to your real business. They appear early in onboarding, before your business name and first location details.
These choices help Speako understand what kind of location you are creating and what starter configuration may be useful.
What the category step does
The category step asks you to choose the broad type of business. You cannot continue until a category is selected.
After that, the subtype step asks for a more specific business subtype. You also need to choose a subtype before continuing.
Together, these choices help Speako decide how to shape the initial setup experience.
Why the subtype matters
The subtype can affect starter data created during onboarding. For supported subtypes, Speako may set up practical starting points such as services, staff, tables, greetings, personality settings, and AI tools.
Starter data is there to reduce blank-page setup work. It is not a guarantee that the workspace is ready for customers.
💡 Note: Choose the closest match to how the location actually operates. A more accurate subtype usually creates a more useful starting point.
How this connects to restaurant and service-business setup
The industry choice works together with the location type. Restaurant-style locations focus on table and seating setup. Service-business locations focus on staff, services, and service categories.
If the selected category and subtype do not match the way customers book with you, your dashboard may feel less relevant and your setup guide may point you toward the wrong kind of work.
What to review after onboarding
After the workspace is created, review any starter data before using it:
- services and categories for service businesses
- staff, job titles, and availability for service businesses
- tables, zone tags, floor plans, and statuses for restaurants
- AI Agent greetings, personality, voice, tools, and knowledge
- business information and location details
If your category is not an exact match
Use the closest available option and then refine the configuration in the dashboard. Speako setup is meant to get the first location started; the dashboard is where you turn that starting point into the exact operating model your business needs.
