The Setup Guide is the checklist that helps you turn a newly created workspace into a usable Speako setup. It appears after onboarding and points you toward the most important configuration areas.
Use it as a readiness guide, not as a decoration. The tasks are chosen because they affect what customers can book and how the AI Agent behaves.
What the Setup Guide includes
The current setup tasks include:
| Task | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Update your business info | Adds business name, address, and contact details |
| Setup Location | Configures location details and settings |
| Set booking availability | Defines business hours and when customers can book |
| Setup your booking resources | Adds staff and services for service-business locations |
| Set up your tables | Configures restaurant tables and seating capacity |
| Setup AI Voice Agent | Configures how the AI Agent sounds and behaves on calls |
| Setup AI Tools | Controls what actions the AI Agent can perform |
| Setup AI Agent Knowledges | Adds information the AI Agent should know about the business |
| Make a test call | Lets you hear the AI Agent in action |
| Setup Online Booking Page | Creates a booking page for customers to book online |
Some tasks only apply to certain location types. Restaurant locations see table setup. Non-restaurant service locations see booking-resource setup for staff and services.
A good order to follow
The Setup Guide already gives you a practical order, but it helps to understand why:
- Start with business and location details so Speako has the correct foundation.
- Configure availability so booking times make sense.
- Add booking resources, either staff and services or restaurant tables.
- Configure the AI Agent's voice, behaviour, tools, and knowledge.
- Test the call experience.
- Set up online booking once the underlying details are ready.
💡 Tip: If the AI Agent gives weak answers or cannot complete a booking-related task, check the Setup Guide items behind that behaviour before changing the agent's personality.
Why some tasks differ by business type
Speako does not ask every business to configure the same resources. Restaurants need tables and seating capacity. Service businesses need staff and services.
This is why choosing the correct business type during onboarding matters. The setup checklist reflects that choice.
When a task is not really finished
A task can send you to the right dashboard area, but you still need to decide whether the configuration is complete enough for customers.
For example:
- business info should be accurate and customer-facing
- availability should match real operating hours
- services and tables should reflect what customers can actually book
- AI knowledge should answer common questions clearly
- a test call should sound acceptable before forwarding real calls
Use the checklist as a guide, then apply business judgement before going live.
