Zone tags group restaurant tables by area, such as Patio, Indoor, Outdoor, Booths, or VIP. They help your team understand where each table belongs and make it easier to manage seating preferences.
A table can have one zone tag. You can create zone tags before adding tables, while adding a table, or from the dedicated Zone Tags page.
Open Zone Tags
From the dashboard, open Tables, then go to Zone Tags.
The page heading is Zone Tags, with the description Group tables by area like Patio, Indoor, or VIP.
If you haven't created any zones yet, you'll see:
- No zone tags yet
- Create zones like Patio, Indoor, or VIP to organize your tables.
- Create your first zone
Create a zone tag
Select Add Zone Tag in the page header, or Create your first zone if the page is empty.
The creation dialog is titled Create Zone Tag. Its hint says: Zone tags group tables by area like Patio, Indoor, or VIP.
Enter a clear zone name and choose a colour. The colour helps the tag stand out in the dashboard and on table cards.
While the zone is being saved, the button changes to Creating....
Naming guidance
Use names your team already uses during service. Good zone names are short and physical:
- Patio
- Indoor
- Outdoor
- Bar
- Booths
- VIP
- Upstairs
Avoid names that describe booking rules rather than areas. For example, Large parties only is better handled through table capacity, not as a zone name.
💡 Tip: If customers commonly ask for a seating preference, consider making that preference a zone. For example, if callers ask for “outside seating,” create an Outdoor or Patio zone.
Creating zones while adding or editing a table
You can also create a zone from the Zone Tag field when adding or editing a table. This is useful if you're setting up tables quickly and realise you need a new area label.
Even when created from a table form, the zone becomes available across the restaurant location.
What happens after creating a zone
New zones appear on the Zone Tags page as cards. Each card shows:
- The zone name and colour
- How many tables use the zone
- A preview of the assigned tables
If a zone has no tables yet, it shows No tables assigned.
Once created, assign the zone to tables from the Tables list or from the table add/edit form.
