The Temperature setting gives you finer control over how your AI agent generates responses — specifically, how consistent and predictable it sounds from call to call. For most businesses the default works well, but if you want tighter consistency or more conversational variety, this is where you adjust it.
Where to find this setting
Go to AI Agent → Personality → Advanced. The Temperature card is at the top of the page.
What temperature does
Temperature controls how much variation the agent introduces when forming its responses. A lower value means the agent will respond similarly every time a customer asks the same question. A higher value means the agent draws from a wider range of phrasing and expression, which can feel more natural but less predictable.
The scale runs from 0.00 to 1.00:
| Range | Label | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| 0.00 | Deterministic | Nearly identical responses every time |
| 0.01 – 0.30 | Precise | Very consistent, minor natural variation |
| 0.31 – 0.70 | Creative | Noticeable variety; still coherent and helpful |
| 0.71 – 1.00 | Very Creative | High variation; more expressive but less predictable |
Use the slider to set any value between 0.00 and 1.00 in 0.05 steps. The current value and its label are shown above the slider so you always know where you are.
Quick Presets
Three quick-select presets sit below the slider for common use cases:
- Deterministic (0.00) — the most consistent option; good when you want precise, controlled responses
- Creative (0.50) — a balanced middle ground; the agent stays helpful but sounds more conversational
- Very Creative (1.00) — maximum variation; suits businesses that want the agent to feel very natural and spontaneous
Selecting a preset snaps the slider directly to that value.
💡 Tip: For most service businesses, somewhere in the 0.30 – 0.60 range strikes the right balance — consistent enough to be trustworthy, natural enough to feel human. Very low values can make the agent sound slightly robotic if it repeats the exact same phrasing call after call.
⚠️ Important: Temperature does not affect the factual accuracy of the agent's answers. The agent will still use the information in your Knowledge Base regardless of where temperature is set. Temperature only affects how responses are phrased, not what they contain.
Saving your changes
After adjusting the slider, the Save your changes? banner will appear at the bottom of the screen. Select Save Changes to apply. All personality settings — including traits, tone, response style, temperature, and custom instructions — save together in one action.
