The primary language is the default language for your AI agent. It controls which voices are shown in the Primary Voice card and sets the main language the agent uses before any additional language behaviour is applied.

Where to set it

Go to AI Agent → Voice & Languages → Voice & Languages. In the Primary Voice card, select the language button near the top-right of the card. It shows the current language with a flag.

This opens Select Language, where you can choose the primary language for your agent.

What changes when you switch languages

When you select a new primary language, Speako refreshes the voice list to show voices available for that language. It also automatically picks a voice for the new language when one is available.

If a language does not currently have any available voices, the page shows No voices available for the selected language.

⚠️ Important: Changing the primary language can also affect your greeting setup. Speako reloads voice and greeting-related data after voice settings are saved, so review your greetings after a language change to make sure they still read naturally.

Primary language vs additional languages

Use the primary language for the language your customers use most often. Additional languages are for customers who may call in another language.

For example:

  • A restaurant in Sydney with mostly English-speaking callers would usually keep English as the primary language.
  • A business that regularly serves Mandarin or Spanish-speaking customers can add those as additional languages after setting the primary language.

Before changing it

Changing the primary language is more significant than changing a single voice. Before saving, check:

  • the selected voice still sounds right
  • additional languages are still the languages you want to support
  • your greetings still make sense in the new language context
  • any custom pronunciations are still useful

If you are only trying to support callers in one extra language, you may not need to change the primary language. Add an additional language instead.

Saving your change

Selecting a new primary language stages the change. The Save your changes? banner appears at the bottom of the screen. Select Save Changes to apply it or Reset to return to the previous saved language.

Voice, additional language, call setting, and pronunciation changes save together, so you can finish all related adjustments before saving once.
