Speako supports two types of locations: Restaurant and Service-Based. Your location type determines which features are available.

The Two Location Types

Restaurant

For businesses where customers book tables for dining:

  • Restaurants and cafes

  • Bars and pubs

  • Event venues

  • Food halls Key features:

  • Table management with seating capacity

  • Zone organization (patio, main room, private dining)

  • Party size handling

  • Floor plan visualization

Service-Based

For businesses where customers book appointments with staff:

  • Salons and spas

  • Medical and dental practices

  • Professional services

  • Fitness and wellness

  • Education and tutoring Key features:

  • Staff profiles and schedules

  • Service catalog with durations and pricing

  • Individual staff availability

  • Service-to-staff assignments

How Location Type is Set

Your location type is determined when you create your first location during onboarding:

  1. You select your business category
  2. The system determines if it's restaurant or service-based
  3. All locations in your account use this type

    💡 Note: Location type cannot be changed after creation. All locations in your organization share the same type.

Feature Differences

Different menu items appear based on your type:

Restaurants see:

  • Tables — Manage your dining tables Service businesses see:

  • Staff — Manage team members

  • Services — Manage service offerings

Booking Flow

Restaurant bookings include:

  • Party size (number of guests)

  • Table assignment

  • Zone preferences Service bookings include:

  • Service selection

  • Staff member selection

  • Service duration

AI Agent Behavior

Your AI agent adapts to your location type:

For restaurants:

  • "How many guests will be dining?"

  • "Would you prefer indoor or outdoor seating?"

  • Checks table availability based on party size For service businesses:

  • "Which service would you like to book?"

  • "Do you have a preferred staff member?"

  • Checks staff availability for the service

Copying Between Locations

When creating a new location by copying an existing one:

  • All copied locations must be the same type
  • Restaurant tables can only copy to restaurant locations
  • Service assignments can only copy to service locations
