Services are the offerings your business provides to customers. This article introduces how services work in Speako.

What Is a Service?

A service is any offering your business provides that customers can book. Examples include:

  • Haircut
  • Massage therapy
  • Personal training session
  • Consultation
  • Manicure Each service has properties that define how it works in the booking system.

Service Properties

Every service includes:

Name

The name customers see when booking. Keep it clear and descriptive:

  • Good: "Men's Haircut", "60-Minute Swedish Massage"
  • Less clear: "Service A", "Basic"

Duration

How long the service takes. This determines:

  • Booking slot length
  • Staff availability calculations
  • Time blocked on calendars

Price

The cost of the service. Displayed to customers during booking and used for revenue tracking.

Description (Optional)

Additional details about the service. Helpful for explaining what's included or what customers should expect.

Category

Which category the service belongs to. Categories help organize services and make browsing easier for customers.

How Services Work

In Bookings

When a customer books through your AI agent or booking page:

  1. They browse or describe the service they want
  2. The system checks which staff can provide it
  3. Available time slots are calculated based on duration
  4. The booking is created for that service

With Staff

Services are assigned to staff members who can provide them:

  • A colorist might be assigned to "Color Treatment" but not "Haircut"
  • A massage therapist might offer multiple massage types Only staff assigned to a service appear as options when booking that service.

With Add-ons

Services can have optional add-ons (modifiers):

  • "Scalp Treatment" as an add-on to "Shampoo & Blowout"
  • "Deep Tissue Upgrade" for a basic massage Add-ons have their own pricing and may affect duration.

Service Types

Speako supports services for different business types:

Service-Based Businesses

  • Hair salons: Cuts, color, styling
  • Spas: Massages, facials, body treatments
  • Fitness: Personal training, classes
  • Professional: Consultations, coaching

Restaurants

Restaurants typically use table/venue availability rather than individual services. However, you might use services for:

  • Tasting menus
  • Private dining experiences
  • Special events
