Accurate capacity settings ensure the right guests get the right tables. This article explains how to configure table capacity.

Accessing Capacity Settings

Table capacity is set when:

  • Creating a new table
  • Editing an existing table Both minimum and maximum capacity must be specified.

Setting Minimum Capacity

Minimum capacity is the smallest party you'll seat at this table:

  1. Open the table for editing
  2. Find the minimum capacity field
  3. Enter a number (1 or higher)
  4. Save your changes

Setting Considerations

  • 1 — Any size party can sit here
  • 2 — No single diners at this table
  • 4+ — Reserved for larger groups

Setting Maximum Capacity

Maximum capacity is the most guests the table can hold:

  1. Open the table for editing
  2. Find the maximum capacity field
  3. Enter a number equal to or greater than minimum
  4. Save your changes

Physical Limits

  • Count the chairs that fit comfortably
  • Consider table surface area
  • Don't overcrowd—customer experience matters

Capacity Validation

The system validates:

  • Both fields must be positive numbers
  • Minimum cannot exceed maximum
  • Reasonable ranges (typically 1-50) If validation fails, you'll see an error message.

Capacity Examples

Flexible vs Restrictive

Flexible Approach

Table Type Min Max Use Case
2-top 1 2 Singles, couples
4-top 2 4 Small groups
6-top 4 6 Medium groups
Large booth 6 10 Large groups
Private room 10 30 Events

Low minimums allow smaller groups:

  • 4-top with min=1: Seats anyone 1-4
  • More bookings accepted
  • May waste larger table on small party

Restrictive Approach

Higher minimums protect tables:

  • 6-top with min=5: Only for 5+ guests
  • Saves large tables for large parties
  • May turn away smaller groups

Changing Capacity

If table setup changes:

  1. Edit the table
  2. Adjust min and/or max
  3. Save changes New capacity applies to future bookings immediately.

Capacity and AI Agent

Your AI agent uses capacity settings:

  1. Customer says "party of 4"
  2. Agent finds tables where 4 fits in range
  3. Offers only suitable tables
  4. Books matching table

Best Practices

  1. Be accurate — Set capacity based on actual furniture
  2. Consider comfort — Leave room for comfortable dining
  3. Balance flexibility — Some tables flexible, some protected
  4. Review regularly — Adjust based on experience
