For restaurants, tables are the bookable units that customers reserve. This article introduces how table management works in Speako.
What Are Tables?
In Speako, tables (also called venue units) represent the physical dining spaces at your restaurant:
- Dining tables
- Booths
- Bar seating
- Private rooms
- Outdoor areas Each table can be booked by customers through your AI agent or booking page.
Table Properties
Every table has:
Name
An identifier for the table:
- "Table 1", "Table 2"
- "Booth A", "Booth B"
- "VIP Room"
- "Patio Section"
Capacity
How many guests the table can seat:
- Minimum capacity — Smallest party size
- Maximum capacity — Largest party size Example: A table for 2-4 guests won't be offered to a party of 6.
Zone (Optional)
Which section of your restaurant the table is in:
- Indoor
- Outdoor
- Patio
- Bar area
- Private dining
How Tables Work
During Reservations
When a customer requests a table:
- Your AI agent asks about party size
- The system filters tables by capacity
- Available tables for the requested time are found
- A suitable table is booked
Availability
Tables inherit your location's availability:
- When you're open, tables are available
- When you're closed, no tables can be booked
- Date-specific hours apply to all tables
Bookings
Each booking reserves a specific table:
- One table per booking
- Time slot is blocked for the duration
- Other customers can't book the same table at the same time
Restaurant vs Service Business
Tables are specific to restaurants. Service businesses (salons, spas, etc.) use staff availability instead:
