Customers Get a Busy Signal or Wrong Greeting

If callers are hearing a busy signal, a generic phone carrier message, or an incorrect greeting, there are several things to check.

Busy signal

A busy signal typically means one of the following:

1. Call forwarding is not configured correctly. If your business phone is not forwarded to the Speako AI phone number, calls go directly to your carrier. The carrier may play a busy signal if your line is in use or if call forwarding isn't set up. Check your phone provider settings.

2. The forwarding number is wrong. If call forwarding is set up but pointing to the wrong number, calls will be delivered to the wrong destination. Check the AI receptionist's phone number in your AI Receptionists settings and compare it to the forwarding number configured on your phone.

3. Voice AI is off and no fallback is configured. If Voice AI is turned off and you don't have a fallback phone number configured, calls forwarded to Speako may not connect anywhere. Configure a fallback number in your AI receptionist settings.

Wrong greeting

If callers are hearing a different business's greeting, or a generic greeting not matching your business:

1. Check the active location. If you have multiple locations, confirm which AI receptionist's phone number the call is forwarding to. Each AI receptionist has its own greeting. If you're forwarding to the wrong one, callers get that AI's greeting.

2. Your greeting has not been published. If you updated your greeting but haven't published, callers still hear the old greeting. Publish the AI to push the updated greeting live.

3. The greeting text is wrong. Review your greeting in AI Receptionists → [Your AI] → Greetings. If it says the wrong business name or has the wrong message, update it and publish.

Testing

After making any changes, call your business phone number yourself to confirm callers hear the correct greeting. This is the definitive test.

⚠️ Important: Always test your call forwarding setup after changing your business phone provider or number. Forwarding can silently break if phone settings are reset or the plan changes.
