Phone Number FAQs

Do I keep my existing business phone number? Yes. Your existing phone number stays as-is. Speako works by call forwarding — you forward your business number to the AI receptionist's number. Customers always call the same number they know.


Where do I find the AI receptionist's phone number? Go to AI Receptionists → [Your AI] and look in the AI Configuration section. The AI Agent Phone Number is displayed there (read-only) with a copy button.


Can I forward a landline to the AI? Yes. Landlines support call forwarding, though the process differs by provider. Your phone provider's support team can help you set up call forwarding on a landline. Speako provides a call forwarding guide in Settings for various phone types.


What happens to calls when the AI is off? When Voice AI is disabled, Speako doesn't answer the forwarded calls. Depending on your phone configuration, calls may go to voicemail on your regular phone line, ring unanswered, or be handled by your fallback number if configured. Can I have multiple phone numbers for one AI receptionist? No. Each AI receptionist is assigned one specific phone number. If you want to cover a second phone number, you'd need a second AI receptionist (location).


The AI's phone number looks like a different area code than my business. Is that normal? Yes. Speako assigns phone numbers from a pool of available numbers. The AI's number may have a different area code from your business. This is the number your business phone forwards to — customers don't see or call this number directly.


Can I pick my own phone number for the AI? The AI phone number is assigned from available inventory when your AI receptionist is created. It's not user-selectable. If you have specific requirements, contact Speako support.


What is a fallback phone number? A fallback number is where calls go when the AI cannot handle them — for example, if Voice AI is off or the AI transfers to a human. Configure it in AI Receptionists → [Your AI] → AI Configuration → Fallback Phone.
