Connecting Facebook Messenger lets your AI receptionist answer messages sent to your Facebook Page — replying to questions, taking bookings, and handing over to a human when the customer asks. Once connected, chats are handled automatically around the clock.
Before you start
You need:
- A Facebook Page for your business (not a personal profile).
- An admin role on that Page, using the Facebook account you'll sign in with.
- Your Speako AI agent already set up, so it has knowledge to answer from.
💡 Note: The Messenger connection is business-wide, not per location. One Facebook Page connects to your whole Speako account.
Connecting your Page
- Go to Dashboard → Integrations.
- Under AI Messaging, click the Facebook Messenger card.
- Click Connect a Facebook Page and sign in with Facebook.
- Grant the permissions Facebook asks for. Speako needs these to receive messages sent to your Page and to reply on your behalf.
- Back in Speako, the Choose a Page step lists the Pages you administer. Select the Page you want Speako to answer messages for.
Once selected, the card shows a Connected badge with your Page name.
Messenger settings
The Messenger Settings card controls what new customers see when they first message your Page. Saving here updates the settings on Facebook itself, not just inside Speako.
Get Started button — shows a Get Started button to first-time visitors, so people who have never messaged you have an obvious way to begin.
Ice breakers — up to a handful of suggested questions shown before the customer types anything, for example "How do I book?" or "What are your opening hours?". Add one per row, or remove any you don't want.
Click Save settings to push the changes to Facebook.
💡 Tip: Ice breakers work best when they match what people actually ask you. Look at your recent Messenger conversations and use the three most common questions.
Testing it
The Test it card links straight to your Page in Messenger. Send it a message as a customer would:
- Say "Hi" — you'll get your welcome message.
- Try "I'd like to book" — the branch, service, and staff options appear as tappable buttons.
- Try "talk to a human" — the chat hands off to your team in Meta Business Suite.
If nothing comes back, check that the Page shown in Speako is the same Page you messaged.
Handing over to a human
When a customer asks for a person, the AI stops replying and the conversation waits for your team in Meta Business Suite. Answer it there as you normally would — the AI won't talk over you.
Disconnecting
On the Facebook Messenger page, click Disconnect, then Confirm.
Disconnecting unsubscribes Speako from your Page's messages and removes the stored Page connection from Speako. Your AI stops answering Messenger chats immediately.
Your Facebook Page, its message history, and any conversations already in Meta Business Suite are unaffected — they belong to your Facebook account, not to Speako. You can reconnect at any time by choosing your Page again.
