What is a Location?
In Speako, a location is a physical place where your business operates — and each location gets its own AI receptionist to handle calls.
The connection between locations and AI receptionists
Every location in Speako is paired with an AI receptionist. When a customer calls the phone number assigned to that receptionist, the AI answers on behalf of that specific location. It uses that location's:
- Operating hours and holiday schedule
- Services (or tables, for restaurants)
- Staff roster (for service businesses)
- AI configuration: greetings, personality, voice, and knowledge base
- Booking page settings
This means each location has a dedicated, independent setup. Changes you make to one location do not affect others.
Where to manage locations
In your dashboard sidebar, look for AI Receptionists. This section replaces what was previously labelled "Locations" — the path /dashboard/location redirects here. The AI Receptionists page lists all your receptionists and their associated locations. The header reads AI Receptionists with the description: AI receptionists handling your business calls. Each receptionist answers one phone number.
When you need more than one location
You might set up multiple locations if your business has:
- Two or more physical premises (e.g. a city centre branch and a suburban branch)
- Staff working out of separate sites
- Different phone numbers for different service types or teams
Each location/receptionist is managed independently, though you can copy settings from one to another when creating a new one (see Copying Settings from an Existing Location).
Location limits
The number of locations you can create depends on your plan. If you reach your limit, the dashboard will notify you. See Location Limits by Plan for details.
Restaurant vs service business locations
Both restaurant and service-business modes support multiple locations. The difference is what each location manages:
- Restaurant locations manage tables, shifts, zones, and reservation rules.
- Service business locations manage staff, services, weekly operating hours, and appointment rules.
💡 Tip: If you're just getting started with a single location, Speako's onboarding creates your first location for you. You only need to visit the AI Receptionists section to review or update it — you don't need to create anything from scratch.
